Name: Nadya
Race: Human
Age: 35
Origin: Minoc
Profession: Warlock, tinker
Physical Appearance: Five foot two, small and sturdy, dark brown eyes, deeply tanned and weathered skin after many years in the wilderness, black hair with grey strains. Will tend to wear regular gypsy garb when not in uniform. Wedding ring on the right hand.
Early life
Nadya was born in the Minoc gypsy camp. It was a difficult birth, and the midwives were unable to save her mother. She grew up in the woods around Trinsic and Vesper, and got to know them like the back of her hand. Her inability as a seer was a disapointment to her grandmother, but she had a knack for magic. Her father, working as a miner and as harvest help, was able to send her to Moonglow for schooling in the magic arts. Nadya endured the years learning the stuffy and wordy city magic, but did not partake in the social life in the shop. Somewhat shy, and well aware of her position at the very bottom of society alongside thieves and robbers, she much preferred the company of the tinkers at the Bank and the creatures of the wood.
On the day she recieved the journeyman’s license from Aegis, Nadya started working for Aelina the tinker, glad to have a break from studies. After two happy years at Moonglow Bank she returned to Trinsic with a finely crafted application. The Duchy approved, and allowed her to rent the tinker’s shop in the north west corner of the city, close to the busy West Gate. Like Moonglow, the city itself was too monumental for her, so she slept under the stars in a small camp below the Foxgloves’ manor.
Adulthood
Nadya was fascinated by the diversity of peoples converging on Trinsic in this era, and spent many evenings at the Rose and by the West Gate. She was especially fascinated by the easygoing people of Vesper: alone among city people they tended to treat her as an equal, and even brought her along to their tavern. Nadya started hanging out at Swaggers in the weekends, and after a while was offered citizenship and a job in the Militia. She was trained in magical combat by famous mages like Elliot Heath and Hanse Davion, and made great advances in skill and experience. The years in the Militia and the Army, fighting for the enlightened city of Vesper, left many fond memories.
While in the service of the Republic she witnessed first hand the practices of the Avatarian Church, and grew to regard their diety as a demonic entity, bent on enslaving the peoples. Nadya, weary of war and sickened by the state of the land, eventually returned to her family in Trinsic. Some years later, while working as a healer and midwife among the gypsies of Trinsic and Minoc, she heard of Escaflowne’s return, and briefly returned to Vesper to join the Hand of Chaos. Soon afterwards her father was killed over a gambling debt, and Nadya spent fruitless months hunting the creditor, eventually giving up and returning to the healer’s life.
Return
Nadya, lately living in Compassion, Ilshenar, eventually heard rumours of battles and the name Escaflowne. She packed her meagre belongings, bid her family farewell yet again, and headed for the North. Perhaps they would accept her, perhaps her edge had dulled overmuch - it mattered not. She would finally see the city and people of Vesper again. Nervously, Nadya emerged from the woods and met Captain De Blaze, who – to her delight and mild surprise – accepted her into the Redguard and affirmed her citizenship.
